About LaCrosse Sailing Club

LaCrosse Sailing Club is a cooperative organization that offers sailing opportunities on Lake Onalaska. The club is specifically for sailboat owners in the LaCrosse, Wisconsin, area who are interested in cruising, racing, and social opportunities with other sailors. Established in 1959, the club has grown from a small boat racing organization to include club property leased from the Army Corps of Engineers on an annual basis.

It is maintained as a cooperative with members providing labor and expertise. The facilities include slips for 36 floating cruisers, 24 lifts for day sailers, 11 beach spaces for catamarans, 15 dolly spaces, and 10 trailerable boat spaces.

Boat owners own and maintain their docks and lifts, which can be sold with a boat at the club. Spaces are assigned to new members as available. A Waitlist is maintained to assign spaces when none is available at a given time. The grounds also include various amenities such as a large picnic shelter, a screened shelter with weather curtains, secure storage shed with a refrigerator/freezer and various tools for member use, handicap accessible porta-potty, running water at several locations, security cameras that members can view online, and sprinkler system.

A social schedule is put together each year that includes monthly dinners/meals and cruises around the time of the full moon, monthly raft-ups, Spring and Fall Work Days, and two annual meetings of the membership. Each fleet of boats, led by their Captain from the Board of Directors, hosts one of the social events of the season. A small fee is charged for dinners and members are welcome to bring guests to these events.

The system of space assignment and maintenance of the club has been developed over many years. The Board of Directors maintains a fund for repairs and improvements. Fees are kept as low as possible to keep the grounds in good condition.

Why Choose LaCrosse Sailing Club?

Our Mission

At LaCrosse Sailing Club, our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where sailors of all levels can enjoy the sport of sailing. We aim to promote the joy of sailing, foster camaraderie among sailors, and offer various opportunities for social interaction and skill development. Our club is dedicated to preserving the tradition of sailing and creating memorable experiences for our members.

Racing has been a club tradition and is organized by fleets. Through the club's history, there have been scow races,  PHRF-rated keelboat races, Daysailer races, and Laser fleet races on a flexible schedule to take advantage of the best conditions each week. Each fleet arranges their own rules, schedule, and procedures. The club owns racing buoys, flags, and a committee boat. Regattas have been held many years with PHRF-rated keelboats, Sunfish, Daysailer, and Laser fleets.

As a member you can:

Barbecue in the shelter any day.

Join cruisers in exploring Lake Onalaska.

Help host a Regatta.

Sail with Women on the Water. Raft up with other boats.

Teach your children to sail. Go for a moonlight sail.

Watch the pelicans that live on the North end of Lake Onalaska.

Race. Learn to sail a different boat.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a premier cooperative sailing club on Lake Onalaska, known for our exceptional facilities, vibrant community, and commitment to promoting the sport of sailing. We envision a future where LaCrosse Sailing Club continues to be a hub for sailing enthusiasts, fostering a passion for the sport and creating enduring memories on the water.

Members are encouraged to invite fiends to sail with them to expand the sailing community. Members often take new sailors out for informal lessons.
